The balls overall appearance is great except the baseball was oddly shaped which is why I gave it 4 stars. I could not get it to inflate to the full round shape with the air pump. It kept the odd shape after it was filled with air. My grandson is one year old and he can handle all the balls, all using one hand except the basket ball. There is a red, yellow and blue ball that I thought was a basketball it's size requires him to use both hands which he does with no problem. All the other balls are great sizes and very light including the ball that is larger than the others. My grandson picks all the balls up and throw the balls with ease. I did not notice any smell while handling the balls unless it was so faint I as an older adult could not detect it. The balls bounced better than I was expecting. The air pump that came with the balls worked well enough to blow up all the balls. I noticed the air pump needle (I think that's what it's called) worked better when it was pushed in the ball as far as it would fit, to the point where the pump base is touching the ball. All the balls did not fit well in the mesh bag that came in the package. The bag could not be pulled shut completely with all 7 balls inside. The balls were soft to touch even after being filled with air which I love for my grandson. The balls kept the shape after being thrown and bounced. So far I have not had to try adding more air. My grandson likes playing with the balls but unfortunately he also still puts things in his mouth. The balls are too big to fit in his mouth but he tries bitting on it. I think the balls makes a great gift and I would buy the balls again. I am teaching my grandson to play catch and throw, he likes playing and tries to bounce the ball after he saw me doing it. He's still a bit young but I think he will continue to enjoy playing with the balls even more as he gets older and can make the balls function as purposed.
